Written and performed by Christian Hege
Directed by Jenny Mercein
A 16-year-old American Civil War veteran struggles to live a normal life, on New York City’s Lower East Side. But when his flashbacks happen, there are toys. Everywhere. An achingly beautiful fairy tale for grownups.
Part of 59E59 Theaters' East to Edinburgh 2023
Christian Hege thought he was just writing scripts for graphic novels. But people kept telling him that the way he READ them was as much a part of them as the writing itself. So he thought - well then, let's see what this is all about. He performed his story of Grýla - the Icelandic Christmas Ogress who eats the bad children - at the Reykjavik Fringe Festival in 2020 (online) and 2021 (in person), to a Best Online Performance award and the Act Alone award in Iceland. This year, under the continued direction of Jenny Mercein, he is Santa Claus himself. His life has taken so many left turns at Albuquerque (that's a Bugs Bunny reference) that finally, he has no choice but to be in Edinburgh in August. He'll see you there.
