Directed by: Neil Bartlett
With: Jessica Walker and Joe Atkins

In their critically acclaimed one woman show, Jessica Walker and Neil Bartlett create a tribute to the artistry and glamour of the often outrageous cross-dressing women of the British music hall and American variety stages, taking a provocatively contemporary look at what it means when a woman wears the trousers - on stage.

Producing Company

Jess Walker Music Theatre

Jess Walker Music Theatre has been set up to create and promote new, small-scale, touring music theatre projects in English, with a commitment to taking high quality work to audiences not only in London, but in areas of the country not currently well-served by this kind of theatre. Jess Walker Music Theatre will contribute towards a healthy future for new music theatre, by commissioning outstanding young composers, librettists and performers to make new work, and by encouraging audiences to engage with it, not just in performance, but by taking part in post-show discussions and educational workshops about the collaborative, creative process. By discussing the process and performance of new work with its audience, this charity aims to strengthen and encourage broader interest in the art form; it will combine accessibility of subject matter with excellence in its execution. The founder of the charity, Jessica Walker, already has a proven track record for taking her creative work to a diversity of audiences; from sold out performances at the prestigious Barbican Centre to this year's Homotopia festival in Liverpool, she has demonstrated that there is a broad, cross-generational audience for her work keen to engage with her, both during performance and in an educational environment. Her passion and commitment to reach out to audiences with new work has fueled her desire to start this charity and create performance that is low on resources and high on impact; performance that entertains, moves and educates its audience, and that contributes towards the canon of new music theatre pieces.
