Originally seen at the King's Head Theater in London, Stewart Permutt's UNSUSPECTING SUSAN brings to New York one of the major delights of BRITS OFF BROADWAY—Celia Imrie, in her US stage debut. Well-known to moviegoers (most recently Calendar Girls with Helen Mirren and Julie Walters), and to television viewers as 'Miss Babs' of Acorn Antiques in the long-running British series, Victoria Wood As Seen on TV. Stewart Permutt's finely tuned production, Imrie plays the insensitive, petty-minded queen bee of the smart Hampshire village which she resides. Not only ius she a divorcee living apart from her alcoholic husband, she has a paranoid, schizophrenic for a son who lives in London with his 'friend' Jamal and lurches between extremes of violence and despair. Then, one day her son commits a crimes that shakes the world.
