59E59 Theaters believes artistic excellence flourishes in an environment of respect and inclusion. We're committed to maintaining a code of conduct that creates a welcoming space for everyone, from visiting artists and patrons to our dedicated staff.
Here's what that means for you:
Treat Everyone with Dignity: This applies to all interactions whether in person, online, or in written correspondence. Be courteous and respectful in rehearsals, performances, meetings, and throughout our building.
Embrace Collaboration: We value open communication and finding common ground. Avoid combative or controlling behavior to foster a positive creative environment.
Equality for All: We celebrate diversity and have zero tolerance for discrimination or harassment. This means we treat everyone with respect, regardless of race, color, religion, creed, sex, gender identity or expression, national origin, citizenship, alienage, age, disability, genetic information, sexual orientation, veteran status, marital or partnership status, or any other protected characteristic.
Hold Each Other Accountable: Assume responsibility for your actions and ensure others do the same.
The Flag System:
To address inappropriate behavior and de-escalate potentially harmful situations in real-time, we use a 3 color "Flag" system (similar to "ouch/oops") posted in various locations at the theater. Companies are encouraged to print and distribute the flag system during your show’s first read-through/rehearsal.
Beginning in July 2024, the flag system will be explained by a representative of 59 at every company’s mandatory meet-and-greet session - with as many cast and creatives as possible.
Reporting Concerns or Incidents:
If you experience or witness behavior, by any member of our community, that goes beyond a "Red Flag" moment, or if calling a Flag doesn't resolve the issue, please report the incident:
You may also formally report concerns to any of the above individuals. Retaliation for raising concerns or assisting in the investigation of a report will not be tolerated.
Any community member(s) in violation of any part of this agreement, including the anti-retaliation section, will be subject to action, which could result in severed ties with our organization.
Let’s work together to create a positive and productive environment for artistic excellence!
